To Support and Defend?
While we all look at Military service as one of the most honorable ways to serve one's country, there's something the recruiters will never tell any potential recruits: convicted felons have more rights than you do. Yup. The hard core military commandos we all see doing heroic deeds and winning battles have less rights than prisoners. These brave men and women have committed no crimes, some not even so much as a parking ticket, and yet when they take that Oath of Enlistment, they have surrendered their rights as U.S. citzens to become pawns of a predatory entity that commands them to do some unspeakable acts, even if it goes against their training.
"To Support and Defend The Constitution if the United States, Against all Enemies, Foreign, and Domestic".
How many domestic enemies does the U.S. Constitution have, to date? Look up the 111th Congressional roster of current incumbents and you'll have your answer. If an amendment goes against the interests of the POTUS or any incumbent, it is subverted, altered, and misinterpreted to suit the purposes of the very entities who are sworn to uphold it. To some, the U.S. Constitution is 'just a piece of paper'. No, it isn't, it is a living testament to what our founding fathers endured at the hands of a tyrant to establish this great nation.
Now this nation is being torn asunder by a bunch of rich idiots. We see the names in the news everyday now: Pelosi, Reid, Bunning, Ensign, McCain, and a multitude of others who use their power of office as a means to an end; to enrich themselves and their friends off the backs of working class voters.
It's a crime, really, for our own congress to hold themselves above the very laws they passed, and yet, expect our men and women in uniform to conduct themselves honorably as representatives of the United States, while they, the incumbents, thumb their noses at the law and embarrass their citizens! Wow, and the U.S. Military wonders why they're shot at, bombed, kidnapped, and even murdered by the foreign militant opponents to U.S. policy.
Let me introduce a new term for U.S. policy: IMPERIALISM. Unless things change, and soon, the U.S. is going to be in more trouble than the U.S. Military can fight their way out of. Stay tuned.

I hate to admit it is true in a country where I live, but you are right. Veterans are treated poorly, and in the VA hospital, when I brought it up, I was told "You have to understand, they don't expect to be coddled, these are real men. When they signed on they knew they could die at any moment, and made up their minds, they aren't like you and me, they are soldiers..." So what does that mean? If you don't treat them well and they die, their families can't sue.
Well I got news for you, the Government does not run this country, the RICH and POWERFUL BIG BUSINESS Owners run this country the Government is just there puppets. Intresting hub and I could go on and on and on with this one, but I won't. I'm sick of this country and where it's headed. But I don't see what the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge has to do with this hub. I wore that badge on my uniform.
God Bless

I agree, it is do as I say and not as I do.
Congress made their point about their dislike for the Bush war by not properly taking care of the equipment needs of the soldiers. They did this by not allocating funds to provide this equipment.
Sad but true.
